Cascade is a giant staircase located in the center of the city and is one of the main tourist attractions of Yerevan. A massive structure connects the city center with the upper part of Yerevan: Victory Park. There are 572 steps on the Cascade, and the total height difference from the bottom of the stairs to the top of the Memorial of the 50th anniversary of Soviet Armenia is 118 meters. This is one of the most impressive buildings you will see in Yerevan, and a wonderful example of Soviet architecture!
The first idea of building a Cascade was born back in the 1920s, when Alexander Tamanyan whose monument stands in front of the Cascade, designed the city. This famous Armenian architect is the creator of the modern look of Yerevan. He wanted to connect the center with its cultural and administrative institutions with the upper residential areas through green parts with gardens and waterfalls.
The main attraction of the Cascade, without a doubt, is the Gafeschyan Art Center. Here you can find more than 5,000 works, mostly from the collection of Gerard Gafeschyan, which makes it the best museum of modern art in Yerevan. But the main reason to visit the Cascade is not the Center of Gafeschyan. From the upper parts of the complex you can admire a stunning view of the city, probably the best that you will find in Yerevan: right in front of you is the Opera, on the right side you can notice the characteristic building of the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex and the high stele of the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex. However, the most amazing thing you can see from here is the famous Mount Ararat - the holy mountain of the Armenians. At night, when the city lights begin to illuminate, the view from here becomes even more gorgeous,
Cascada is also a very popular holiday destination for both locals and tourists. Here you will find many restaurants and cafes crowded with people who went out for a walk and get some fresh air.
